Renovations & Retrofit

Renovating existing buildings presents unique structural challenges that don’t occur with the design of new structures. These can include addressing known structural deficiencies, upgrading to current seismic standards, addressing the needs of new users or tenants, or mitigating deteriorated or damaged structural elements.

Our approach to retrofits and renovations emphasizes working with the building owner to identify the important performance criteria and looking for strategies that minimize disruptions to building tenants and operations. We have successfully utilized fluid viscous dampers to mitigate concerns in pre-Northridge moment frame buildings and also retrofitted existing office buildings to become new, state-of-the art lab spaces.
