BMW Mountain View

BMW of Mountain View is a new two-story car dealership for the AutoNation group in Mountain View. The building utilizes a structural steel framing gravity system and a special reinforced concrete shear wall lateral system. As a condition of approval from the local jurisdiction, the new building utilized some of the spread footings from the previous building that occupied the site along with new spread footings where required. The unique architectural layout, expansive glazing on the street side of the building required extensive analysis to properly configure the building shear walls lengths and locations while the multiple roof levels required diagonal bracing to transfer lateral loads from the low roof to the high roof diaphragm in order to utilize the shear walls in order areas of the building.
