Administrative Assistant/ Bookkeeping Specialist

PARADIGM Structural Engineers is a distinguished and progressive structural design firm located in downtown San Francisco. PARADIGM provides ground-up design and seismic retrofits in many market sectors including Mission Critical, Life Science & Biotechnology, Healthcare, Education, Commercial & Retail, and Hospitality. PARADIGM has projects throughout the United States, exposing us to a multitude of design challenges requiring creative, intelligent solutions.

We currently have an opening for an Administrative Assistant/ Bookkeeping Specialist who will work closely with the Office Manager to provide administrative as well as marketing support.  The ideal candidate must have initiative, thrive in a highly autonomous work environment, and have the ability to juggle a wide range of administrative tasks.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist Office Manager and Marketing Director with various administrative tasks.

  • Help plan and organize events, parties, annual retreat, including food orders, selecting and reserving venues, site inspections, etc.

  • Track all professional state and international license renewals and professional development hours (PHD) for CEO.  Process applications and/or updates when needed.

  • Provide back-up support for reception when needed.

  • Assist in maintaining and organizing marketing and proposal materials; work with CEO and Marketing Director to prepare and respond to RFQ’s; develop tailored resumes and proposal responses, including government forms and specialized documents.

  • A/P, A/R, Collections, and credit card reconciliations.

  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 3-5 years of experience supporting Executive-Level Management in a corporate environment; AEC industry preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of QuickBooks: A/P; A/R; bookkeeping procedures.

  • Experience with MS Office programs.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong problem solving, prioritizing, organizational and time management skills.

  • Experience with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, & Illustrator) is preferred.

  • Bachelor's Degree is preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service skills.

CAD Drafter

PARADIGM is a growing firm currently seeking to expand our CAD drafting department. We are seeking highly motivated, adaptable drafters with good communication and critical observation skills to join our fast-paced working environment and personable team.

General Areas of Responsibility

Job duties will include the preparation of construction documents (plans, elevations, sections, details, etc.) using AutoCAD. CAD technician will generally work from engineer’s markups and sketches with minimum supervision to create construction documents according to established company standards and procedures. The ideal candidate has experience with structural engineering or architectural drafting and is looking to make a long-term career move. Experience and knowledge of Revit Structure is preferred.


  • Strong technical knowledge of AutoCAD

  • Structural or architectural drafting experience

  • Familiarity with structural engineering drawings and details

  • Familiarity with MS Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.)

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Use AutoCAD to create construction documents according to office standards and best practices.

Staff Engineer

PARADIGM Structural Engineers, Staff Engineers experience a high level of involvement with Principal and Senior Associates as a small firm. Our relative size allows us to maintain a level of developing generations of future engineers to become leaders within the engineering community. 

Responsibilities include structural analysis, computer modeling, calculations, structural design and preparation of construction documents. Staff engineers will collaborate as part of a design team under the supervision of a project engineer or principal. 



  • BS in Civil/Structural Engineering

  • MS and EIT preferred

  • Individuals should have 2+ years of increasing engineering experience in seismic analysis and design, as well as experience in preparing plans and detail drawings.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills a must.

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and software such as MS Word & Excel, Enercalc, and ETABS or SAP is helpful.

Project Engineer

Responsibilities include structural analysis and design, preparation of design documents including calculations, drawings and reports, and supervision of staff engineers within a design team. Project engineers will generally collaborate with a design team with a staff engineer and senior project engineer or principal. Project engineers are also responsible for maintaining client relationships, performing quality assurance functions, developing training programs for the firm, and assuring their projects are completed on-time and within budget. 



  • BS in civil/structural engineering, from an accredited University, with a curriculum including seismic analysis and design

  • MS and PE preferred

  • Minimum of 4+ years of design office experience in seismic analysis and design using various construction materials (wood, steel, concrete, light gage steel, masonry) and the ability to independently develop construction drawings.

  • Experience with DSA and OSHPD preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to prepare comprehensive reports a must.

  • Familiarity with AutoCad and software such as MS Word & Excel, Risa, Ram, Enercalc, and ETABS or SAP required

  • Experience in non-linear analysis strongly recommended

  • Two or more years of management experience preferred
