With the demands for growth, the City of Emeryville expanded their administrative offices and multipurpose rooms to include a newly designed two-story, 15,000 gsf building. Key PARADIGM Principals were part of the integral design team to create an innovative lateral-load-resisting system that reconciles the aesthetic requirements of an exposed structure with up-to-date special concentrically braced frame design and detailing procedures for ductile seismic response. The seismic upgrade of the original three-story, 7,5000 gsf City Hall utilizes center coring of the existing unreinforced masony walls to provide strength with minimum impact on the existing finishes of this registered historic building.
