intelligent structural solutions
This year more than 7,000 engineers and students attend one of over 170 nationwide events in celebration of the American Institute of Steel Construction sponsored “Steel Day.”
Across the country steel fabricators, mills, service centers, galvanizers, HSS producers,bender-rollers, detailers, erectors, machinery manufacturers and software providers opened their facilities, jobsites and offices offering tours and presentations, and inviting the AEC community, general public, universities and schools to see how the steel industry contributes to America’s built environment. Our engineers attended the event hosted by Herrick Corporation in Stockton, California. Together with a mix of participants from construction companies, architectural firms, and student organizations, our engineers had the opportunity to tour the facility while learning about jobsite safety, Revit & BIM modeling, and the steel fabrication process. Highlights included demonstrations of a variety of different safety systems used by onsite erection crews, and a showcase of steel erection tools which included a variety of welding gear, wrenches, and harnesses.
Senior staff engineer Brandon Stone was especially impressed by what he learned about the fabrication process: “The fabrication shop is an extremely busy area. There were crane operators moving around large steel columns, welders welding shear tabs, and grinders grinding away at protruding welds. There were also a bunch of cool machines to view including a machine that automatically cuts steel plate, an automatic welder for long line welds, and drill presses for boring large diameter holes in steel.”
Thank you to the Herrick Corporation for an informative and pleasant day!
