For the past 11 years, Paradgim has provided structural consulting services for the design and renovations of various California clubs for Western Athletic Clubs (now a subsidiary of KSL), including facilities in San Diego, Redwood City, San Jose, and Los Gatos, San Francisco, and Carlsbad. Our work at two of these facilities is highlighted below.
Pacific Athletic Club Carmel Valley in San Diego, California // Structural Engineer of Record
This project consisted of constructing a two-building complex comprising a barrel roof shaped gymnasium with one full-sized and four half-sized basketball courts, four racquetball/squash courts and a child and teen center; a two story semicircle roof shaped fitness center for both single sex and coed fitness activities, lockers, etc., and a 52 foot tall elliptically shaped entry pavilion. Additionally, a small bistro and cafe exists on the lower level of the fitness center and a series of patios and terraces for outdoor dining. The facility possesses numerous tennis courts, an adult only lap pool and spa area, an Olympic size family pool and a children’s wading pool. $20M total construction cost.
Pacific Athletic Club in Carlsbad California // Structural Engineer of Record
This project consisted of a 90,000gsf family athletic facility to service the growing Carlsbad area. The design of this facility was intended to create multiple private spaces to insulate sound generated by different groups in their user area. Therefore, the main entry, locker room and offices are housed on the east side of the facility with aerobics and cardio extending in a relatively linear arrangement to the family area. A family pool and surrounding grass area is located just to the north of the gymnasium and utility building then a wing extending south housing the spa. To the west of the spa is the adult pool and area along with the tennis courts. The entire facility was designed to be part of a combination Boutique Hotel situated to the east of the site and to provide athletic services to the growing Carlsbad population. Total anticipated construction cost $28M.
